How to spring clean when you're sentimental about your stuff
"Do I use it? Do I need it? Do I love it? Why do I have it?" These are the questions that bestselling author Gretchen Rubin wants you to ask yourself when thinking about keepsakes and trying to organize your living space. Rubin, who wrote the bestselling book "The Happiness Project," suggests you "relentlessly ask yourself these questions," with regards to your belongings.
Rubin's latest book, "Outer Order, Inner Calm: Declutter and Organize to Make More Room for Happiness," focuses on eliminating the clutter in your life and, in turn, feeling happier.
She told SalonTV's Mary Elizabeth Williams on "Salon Talks" that once you start asking yourself these questions you'll start to "surface these falsehoods that you're telling yourself." She stresses the importance of reducing clutter with this strategy. "Like if you have one seashell from the beach, you don't need 25 seashells from the beach. It's not adding anything more, you just need the one."
