With energy around the
Green New Deal resolution driving the conversation on climate change among liberals, 2020 Democratic presidential candidate John Delaney is proposing a different, innovative plan focused on reducing carbon and creating jobs.
"We have to innovate our way out of this problem," Delaney explained to SalonTV's Dean Obeidallah. "What I'm calling for is you put the brakes on it with a carbon tax-with a singular focus on getting that done-and then you unleash all of this innovation to ultimately solve the problem on how we store, distribute energy and take carbon out of the atmosphere."
Watch the video above to hear Delaney explain his approach, a combination of a carbon tax, increasing the Department of Energy research budget by five-fold, and creating a market for negative-emissions technologies (machines that suck carbon out of the atmosphere).
And check out the
full episode to hear more about his appeal to centrists and why he's running for president "on exactly what this country needs."
