Welcome to the second half of winter -- the part that almost everyone hates! With no more major food-based holidays on the horizon on which to gather with friends and family, much of the country is left with only unrelenting cold and (in a few long months) a bunch of false starts before spring actually arrives.
As if on cue, a major snow storm has dumped 20 inches of snow on parts of Massachusetts, shuttered schools in New York and is expected to continue to hammer parts of the Midwest with sub-zero temperatures. People are bracing themselves for power outages, while governors from New York to Illinois are warning people to, if at all possible, stay inside to avoid bitter cold and slippery roads.
