Tucker Carlson has got some explaining to do.
Rather than supporting Mitt Romney's condemnation of Donald Trump's cryptic stance on the KKK, the Daily Caller editor accused the former GOP presidential nominee's statement as something "Obama could have written."
Although the meaning behind the tweet could certainly be disputed, it seems that essentially Carlson was being somewhat critical of KKK criticism.
Obama could have written this. https://t.co/JQpNDSYYHY

Romney's original tweet, meanwhile, was one of the strongest slams from a GOP leader in recent days against Trump.
A disqualifying & disgusting response by @realDonaldTrump to the KKK. His coddling of repugnant bigotry is not in the character of America.

This comes as Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan called out Trump on Tuesday for failing to denounce white supremacist groups.
"If a person wants to be the nominee of the Republican Party, there can be no evasion and no games. They must reject any group or cause that is built on bigotry. This party does not prey on people's prejudices," Ryan told reporters on Capitol Hill. Carlson's tweet was met with fierce criticism by bipartisan followers who were less than amused by his perceived belligerent remark towards Obama, calling him "grotesque." Others bemused:
How dare Mitt Romney criticize blatant racists, amirite? RT @TuckerCarlson: Obama could have written this. https://t.co/mlFk9J8lLV

@TuckerCarlson I would hope all Americans could have written this. — jon gabriel (@exjon) March 1, 2016
@TuckerCarlson any non-racist could have, really. Any non-racist at all. Anyone who didn't endorse racism. Anyone not racist. Hey, hold on
