Grammy-winning producer and drummer Questlove paid moving tribute to his late father, doo-wop artist Lee Andrews, who passed away Wednesday at the age of 79.
Andrews fronted the moderately successful group Lee Andrews & the Hearts in the 1950s. The group's most famous song, "Long Lonely Nights," peaked at 45 on the Billboard "Top 100 Sides" chart.
In an Instagram post Wednesday night, Questlove thanked his father "for the last 2 conversations we had."
"I understand why you were so hard on me praying I didn't succumb to a fate not meant for a teenager in west philly in the mid 80s," he wrote. "I didn't understand it at the time. But I appreciate it now."
