Hey, Fox News! Remember back in 2010, when you were all over us to stop "demonizing" BP and humiliating the CEOs of a poor little (massive) oil company, just because they happened to have spilled millions of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico? Well, someone does, and they couldn't help pointing out that your rabid defense of the company looks a little silly in light of last week's ruling, from U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier, that the company is guilty of "gross negligence" and "willful misconduct" in the worst offshore oil spill in U.S. history.
The "dangerous" decisions made in the lead-up to the explosion were "motivated by profit," the court additionally found, adding: "These instances of negligence, taken together, evince an extreme deviation from the standard of care and a conscious disregard of known risks." These are the same decisions in which Fox could find not even "some element of criminality."
In honor of that damning ruling, Media Matters put together this inspired compilation of Fox pundits jumping to the oil company's defense at the time of the spill, juxtaposed with reports that belie just about every claim the network tried to make. It's good fun; check it out below:
