Coming soon: Karl Rove as Jesus

Which unnatural resource will we exhaust next? Media outlets willing to give Karl Rove a platform to embellish his record and attack Hillary Clinton, or literary metaphors Rove may invoke in doing same?

In a chat with reporters last week, Rove referred to himself as "Moby-Dick" and cast members of Congress as Captain Ahab. He repeated that take on his congressional persecution during an appearance on Fox News over the weekend. And then, as if the legendary white whale just didn't loom large enough, Rove reached back eight or 10 centuries earlier to find something a little more suitable.

"They'll keep after me," Rove said of the Democrats. "Let's face it. I mean, I'm a myth, and they're -- you know, I'm Beowulf. You know, I'm Grendel. I don't know who I am. But they're after me."
