Last week, we asked an expert to rate some of the posters that have been created for Occupy Wall Street by designers all over the world -- from the now-famous image of a ballerina dancing on the Wall Street bull to Shepard Fairey's portrait of a peeling Ronald Reagan.

Some of those images -- available for download online -- have proliferated at protests over the past few weeks. But so have homemade posters of all colors, styles, materials and political messages. The following slide show features posters snapped in New York City by Salon reporter Justin Elliott, along with images from Open Salon contributors and the Associated Press.
