The site doesn’t even exist anymore, but people are still talking about the Tumblr “Sex Questions From Seventh Graders.” An anonymous middle school teacher started the blog to post photographs of the sweet and sometimes hilarious sex queries that her class jotted down on index cards (for example, “Can your eggs brake?”).

No sooner did the site go viral than it was promptly taken down (maybe the teacher had second thoughts about students’ most private questions becoming an Internet meme). But the photos exist forevermore on the Interwebs, and folks are eating them up — because, how cute, how naive these kids are!

Never mind that many adults would actually have trouble answering these questions, either out of ignorance or embarrassment. That’s why I decided to give it a shot, with help from Debby Herbenick, a sex researcher and educator at the Kinsey Institute. Consider this slideshow a helpful guide to educating your kid (or, you know, yourself) about the birds and the bees.

  • How does it smell when people have sex?

Like cotton candy Bubble Yum and My Little Pony?

No, more seriously, Debby Herbenick offers this matter-of-fact explanation: “If people put their faces close to a partner’s genitals, they may notice the scent of their male or female partner’s genitals,” she says. “When people kiss or have their faces together in certain sex positions, they may notice how their partner’s breath smells.” Then there’s the smell of sweat from the physical exertion of sex, and Herbenick kindly warns: “People may feel sensitive about how their body smells, so as you grow older and begin being sexual with a partner, be kind to your partner and try not to make them feel bad about their body.” Good advice for young and old alike.

  • Does porn make your sperm stronger?

The kid-safe answer: No, porn doesn’t make your sperm stronger. Extra-credit for adults: Porn — specifically explicit scenarios involving multiple men with one woman — can increase your sperm count, the theory being that it triggers “sperm competition.”

As for the speed of sex, Herbenick says, “People engage in sex that may be of different paces from slow and gentle to more quick and rough,” she says, but points out that porn tends to show the latter. “When people have sex with each other, it’s helpful for them to talk about what they like, to be careful with each other’s bodies, to try not to hurt one another, and to let each other know if they’d like to go slower or faster or change sex in some way to make it feel better.”

  • Is Trojan the best for protection?

Trojan claims to be America’s “most trusted” condom brand – and it is the most popular — but that’s different from being “the best.” All FDA-approved condom brands are subjected to quality tests that require 99.6 percent effectiveness — although Consumer Reports did its own series of tests and found that seven brands led the pack, three of which were Trojan brand. More important than brand is size and fit — and, most of all, proper use. So pay attention to those condom-on-the-banana demonstrations.

  • Why can't we control our boners?

Ah, puberty. It is a time of pimples, body hair and, for boys, spontaneous erections that can occur morning, noon and night, even without sexual thoughts. You have the hormones flooding your system to thank for that boner at the chalkboard.

  • Y do so many grils when they have sex want to like the guys pines and like sperm on their mouth

It’s true, many women enjoy performing oral sex — but don’t mistake porn, and the frequent appearance of “sperm on their mouth,” as an accurate representation of what women like. It’s important for people to communicate with their partners about their likes and dislikes. (And, again, that advice stands for the young and old alike.)

Maybe you should focus on something that all girls like: Proper spelling and grammar.

  • I heared that the guys can have sex until they die is that true?

Herbenick diplomatically explains, “Men and women both can continue to masturbate by themselves, or engage in various sexual activities” – from kissing to intercourse — “with a partner for as much or as little of their lives as they wish to.” But, she adds, “feeling sick or in pain can get in the way of feeling like sex.”

  • How do the sperms move? Can your eggs brake?

Sperm propel themselves forward with their tails (or “flagellum”), like microscopic tadpoles.

As for eggs “braking”: I don’t know, do they have cars? (Ba-dum.) Herbenick says, “Eggs don’t break, but with menopause and certain health conditions a woman can become infertile.”
