For any stats junkies out there you may have already seen Miley Cyrus appearing in Google Trends lately. Miley already blew up the charts when she was performing during the MTV Awards, and now her “Wrecking Ball” video is climbing up the charts. The branding power of Miley Cyrus is nothing new. Miley was extremely popular while on the Disney Channel as Hannah Montana but has quickly been shedding her younger and good girl image for a tougher and more adult transformation. This is something I recently went into detail on in my featured post on Brand.com.

And if that wasn’t enough, her twerking episode also lined her pocketbook with cash and grew her social media presence. According to Forbes Beat Reporter, Zack O’Malley Greenburg, since the racy performance, Cyrus has sold 90,000 digital downloads of her new track “Wrecking,” which moved into the 13th spot in the Billboard charts. Her Twitter activity rose 112% from the previous week. She added 226,273 new Facebook fans and 213,104 new Twitter followers.

This is a perfect example of the type of advertising, viral and word of mouth activity that money simply can’t buy. Miley has done her job well in promoting her latest album and she isn’t finished yet. In addition to her full album release in October, Miley also has a one-hour documentary with MTV on October 1st which is sure to bring even more attention and value to her name.

With a current network of over $150 million, do you think Miley Cyrus is a good girl gone bad and headed in the wrong direction… or a multi-millionaire marketing genius?
