Vladimir Nabokov is considered one of the century's greatest writers. His novel Lolita, first published in Paris in 1955, stirred up quite a bit of controversy and was banned in several countries. By 1958 it hit the American best-seller lists and is now considered a classic piece of twentieth-century fiction.
