"Snow" by James Lasdun

James Lasdun has been called one of the most distinctive British writers of his generation. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Dylan Thomas Award for short fiction, and is the author of "Delirium Eclipse," "Three Evenings," two collections of short stories, two books of poetry and a travel book. A story from his collection "Besieged," about a wealthy recluse and an immigrant woman who lives in his basement, was adapted into a film of the same title by Bernardo Bertolucci.
