Series

Dylan is injured in a gay-bashing incident on Beverly Hills, 90210 (8 p.m., Fox). The first lady (Stockard Channing) finally shows up on The West Wing (9 p.m., NBC) in an episode about a state dinner that's interrupted by one crisis after another. The Drew Carey Show (9 p.m., ABC) goes live for an episode performed without a safety net for each time zone. Taking a cue from Carey and Ryan Stiles' "Whose Line is it Anyway?" the episode will have a segment that's improvised on the spot. On Roswell (9 p.m., WB), Michael hijacks Maria and her car and heads off in search of the mysterious dome he's been having visions of. ADA Jamie Ross (Carey Lowell) returns for a guest appearance on Law & Order (10 p.m., NBC). She's now a defense attorney. 20/20 (10 p.m., ABC) profiles David Strickland, the "Suddenly Susan" actor who committed suicide earlier this year.

Specials

Rock 'n' Roll Forever: Ed Sullivan's Greatest Hits (8 p.m., CBS) unspools vintage footage of the Beatles, Elvis Presley, the Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys, the Supremes, the Jackson 5, James Brown and others performing on "The Ed Sullivan Show." Ask your parents. Apparently, the Sullivan special is just a fancy lead-in to the conclusion of Shake, Rattle & Roll (9 p.m., CBS). Science writer Timothy Ferris speculates on Life Beyond Earth (check local times, PBS) in a two-hour special.
