What else we're reading

The Guardian: Today marks the 39th anniversary of abortion's legalization in Britain. To commemorate the occasion, the Guardian looks at eroding abortion access in the U.K. and offers first-person abortion testimonials from nine women. A Broadsheet reader let us know that, in the print version, the testimonials are accompanied by the women's pictures.

Associated Press: Drummer Sandy West, who famously co-founded the all-woman rock band The Runaways with Joan Jett, has died of lung cancer at age 47. Conservative blogger Iowahawk has some great clips of West's drumming.

Nerve: As part of the mag's politics issue, Jessica Valenti sounds off on the blogosphere controversy over feminism, breasts and her group photo with Bill Clinton.

The Independent: Research shows that increasing numbers of women are freezing their eggs to free up more time for developing their careers and/or finding the right parenting partner.

HealthDay News: Obese women are at greater risk for polycystic ovary syndrome, which can interfere with fertility.

AllAfrica: Facing few options, girls and young women in the poor, AIDS-ravaged Embo area of South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal province are reportedly exchanging sexual favors for presents and deliberately getting pregnant for welfare benefits, despite the strong chances that they'll contract HIV.
