While John McCain may have trouble reading from the teleprompter, his peeps may have trouble sticking to the script.

The Washington Post's Dana Milbank reports that top McCain advisor Carly Fiorina, once the only female CEO of a company in the Dow Jones industrial average -- and now the RNC's "Victory Chairman" -- raised at a press breakfast "a real, live example which I've been hearing a lot about from women: There are many health insurance plans that will cover Viagra but won't cover birth-control medication," she said. "Those women would like a choice." And once more, for effect: "Those women would like a choice."

Those women, it can thus be inferred, would not like McCain, who voted against a proposal that would have required insurance companies to cover prescription contraception. According to NARAL Pro-Choice America's ongoing McCain lameness watch (PDF), Fiorina's man has voted against family planning 22 times. NARAL's polls (PDF) show that the women McCain especially needs on his side -- "independent and Republican pro-choice women in suburban and exurban swing districts" -- will, once they (Hello!) grok McCain's real positions on (that is, against) reproductive freedom, go for Obama.

Hrm. Wonder what McCain called her -- other than "not my running mate" -- when he found out?
