Third-time loser: Parental notification

It's official: As of this morning, all votes were counted, and California voters have rejected Proposition 4, by a vote of 52 percent to 48 percent. Minors will not be required to notify their parents -- or, alternatively, accuse their parents of child abuse or independently navigate the juvenile court system and successfully plead their case to a judge -- 48 hours before having an abortion. Phew, sanity prevails -- in the case of this measure, for the third time in four years!

Proponents, however, still haven't gotten the message. Albin Rhomberg, spokesperson for the measure's campaign, told the San Francisco Chronicle: "We intend to go right ahead and try again on several fronts, including the initiative front. We know that there is strong support for it." Odd, then, that it keeps losing -- again and again and again.

Considering that it appears the measure will continue to, as Broadsheet's Lynn Harris put it, zombie "its way back from the dead ... with the clear intent of eating voters' braaaaaains," I would like to propose a theme song for its next reanimation: Leslie Hall's "Zombie Killer." Enjoy.
