Viral campaign pranks horny boys

The marketers for "The Last Exorcism" take to Chat Roulette to spook unsuspecting guys. Funny or cruel?

The viral marketing campaign for "The Last Exorcism" is sure to bring a measure of sick satisfaction to those who have dared enter the world of Chat Roulette. The video chat service has a reputation -- and an accurate one, I might add -- for consisting mostly of boys and men pleasuring themselves in extreme close-up before their web cam and/or looking for women who might be coaxed into flashing their breasts. But even knowingly venturing into this pervy domain, the actual preponderance of strange penises and "show us your boobs" heckling can be shocking, even slightly traumatizing. That is at least a small part of why the campaign (via Jezebel) on Chat Roulette works.

Videos are making the rounds of unsuspecting male Chat Rouletters talking with a pretty young girl who starts to take off her top -- just what they've been looking for! Before any real skin is revealed, though, her eyes suddenly roll back into her head, her skin turns sallow and blood gushes out of her eyes. In another version, she breaks her own neck. Surprise! That pretty young girl is possessed by the devil and happens to be the star of a new horror movie. The address for the movie's website flashes across the screen as her chat victims stare on with horror and disbelief. Way to ruin the mood, marketers.

Is this a case of sexual schadenfreude or is it just a fun Internet prank? I leave it up to you to decide.
