Former Clinton fundraiser endorsing McCain

Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a member of the DNC's platform committee, said she thinks Obama is "an elitist."

Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild is officially endorsing John McCain, her spokesman told CNN Tuesday. That's notable because Rothschild is a friend of Hillary Clinton's -- or at least was a friend, we'll see if that will survive this -- and was a prominent fundraiser for her this cycle. She was also a member of the Democratic National Committee's platform committee.

But the real reason that her endorsement deserves mention? Because of the explanation she'd given earlier this summer for why she doesn't like Barack Obama: "I feel like he is an elitist. I feel like he has not given me reason to trust him."

Got that? He's an elitist. This coming from someone whose last name is Rothschild. As Matt Yglesias observed, irony truly is dead.
