Republicans: DeMint like Jew "watching our nation's pennies"

Two leaders of the South Carolina GOP find an odd way to praise the senator

There are some people out there who just aren't very good at compliments. Some don't give them at all; others bungle them horribly. Count Edwin Merwin and James Ulmer, both county chairs in the South Carolina Republican Party, in the latter category.

Merwin and Ulmer recently wrote a letter to the editor of a local paper, responding to another letter that had criticized Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C. In it, they wrote:

There is a saying that the Jews who are wealthy got that way not by watching dollars, but instead by taking care of the pennies and the dollars taking care of themselves. By not using earmarks to fund projects for South Carolina and instead using actual bills, DeMint is watching our nation’s pennies and trying to preserve our country’s wealth and our economy’s viability to give all an opportunity to succeed.

If this means DeMint's as bad at watching pennies as I am, the whole country's in trouble.
