While football fans across the globe are taking part in the thrill and excitement of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, a darker story surrounds the next World Cup site in Qatar. This exclusive clip from the POV documentary "The Workers Cup" gives voice to the 1.6 million African and Asian migrant workers who are laboring to build the sport's grandest stage in Qatar, who will host the world's biggest sporting event in 2022.
"The Workers Cup," directed by Adam Sobel, gained unprecedented access to the workers behind this celebrated international event. The film premieres on the PBS documentary series POV on Monday, July 9 at 10 p.m. ET (check local listings), the day before the first game of the 2018 World Cup semifinals.
