The epithet "Fuck you and the horse you rode in on" held new meaning for a man in Malibu, Calif., last week when he was sentenced to four years in prison for sexually assaulting horses.
According to news reports, 55-year-old Daniel House sold carrots to horse owners at private ranches in California. With that access, he apparently acted upon his bizarre fetish for having sex with female horses. His propensity to rape horses is a sick one, but not new. In June 1999, he was out on bail in connection with the assault of one horse when he attacked another. Police began receiving reports of suspicious injuries on the back legs of horses, indicating that the animals had been tied up and had struggled against the restraints -- and that House was back to his old tricks. He was arrested and has remained in custody since that time, unable to post $250,000 bail.
A Malibu Superior Court judge heard testimony that one horse also suffered a severe knee injury, indicating that it may have stumbled forward during the abuse. A sheriff's deputy also testified that House admitted to engaging in sexual acts with both female horses and a gelding. House pleaded no contest to two felony animal cruelty counts and two misdemeanor counts of sexual assault on animals. He was ordered to pay $1,665 to one of the horse owners for veterinary bills.
