The latest edition of the San Francisco Jazz Festival, now in its 18th year, recently presented three weeks of shows around San Francisco. Among the many artists appearing were Celia Cruz, Cecil Taylor, Bobby McFerrin, McCoy Tyner, Robert Cray, Toots Thielemans, Keith Jarrett and John McLaughlin.
Salon sent photographer Paul Lesniak to chronicle the event; he produced the gallery of photographs you can see here.
The festival, under the artistic direction of saxophonist Joshua Redman, begins its spring season 2001 -- five weekends of concerts, films, family matinees and educational programs -- on Feb. 16. Click here for a complete schedule.
