Salon's TV picks for Tuesday, May 29, 2001

Series

Seven Days (8 p.m., UPN) has its season finale, which is also its series finale. Next season, "Buffy" takes over this time slot. You can tell it's a meaningless ratings week for TV, because ABC has brought The Geena Davis Show (9:30 p.m., ABC) back to the schedule. NYPD Blue (10 p.m., ABC) goes into reruns, beginning with last season's opener, in which Andy prays for little Theo to get well and the squad faces the music for its role in bringing down Kirkendall's slimy ex.

Specials

Tonight, a WB Special Event ... Witchblade (8 p.m., WB) is a TV movie and series pilot that originally aired last year on TNT. Yancy Butler stars as a cop who gains superpowers when she dons an ancient battle glove. Notice how the pilot's running in the WB's "Buffy" slot, as if all chicks with a talent for slaying are the same? ("Witchblade" the series begins next month on TNT.) The Canadian-made movie After the Harvest (9 p.m., Lifetime) stars Sam Shepard as a wealthy, psycho farmer who forces his wife (Alberta Watson) and family to live in poverty so he can satisfy his obsession to own more and more land. What?

Stanley Cup finals:
Devils at Avalanche, Game 2 (8 p.m., ESPN)

NBA playoffs:
Lakers at Spurs, Game 5, if necessary (9 p.m., NBC)

Talk

David Letterman (CBS) Kelly Ripa (rerun)
Jay Leno (NBC) Sally Field, 'N Sync (rerun)
