Jackie Gleason is profiled on a new two-hour Biography (8 p.m. Sun., A&E). The Sopranos (8 p.m. Sun., HBO) reruns the episode where Tony flashes back to his youth and images of a crazy young Livia. The Practice (9 p.m. Sun., ABC) returns with a two-hour season opener. Ellenor and Helen come out swinging in the sensational trial of a state senator accused of murder.

Specials

Virtually every broadcast and cable channel is presenting a simulcast of America: A Tribute to Heroes (9 p.m. Fri., ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS, HBO, MTV, others), a two-hour telethon to raise money for survivors and families of victims of the Sept. 11 terror attacks. The lineup includes Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, Bruce Springsteen, Julia Roberts, Jim Carrey, Stevie Wonder, Robert DeNiro, Clint Eastwood, Faith Hill, Will Smith, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Alicia Keys, Cameron Diaz and, according to rumors, Mariah Carey. The Miss America Pageant (8 p.m. Sat., ABC) unveils its new look, which includes host Tony Danza and a segment where the non-finalists get to vote contestants off the island. A Bug's Life (7 p.m. Sun., ABC) has its network premiere. Dave Foley and Julia Louis-Dreyfus are among those providing the voices for this adorable animated tale of ants and grasshoppers. Sidney Poitier stars in the new TV movie The Last Brickmaker in America (9 p.m. Sun., CBS), about a widower who becomes a mentor to a troubled boy. Conan O'Brien hosts 50 Years of NBC Late Night (9 p.m. Sun., NBC), a look back at the golden years of "The Tonight Show," as well as the dawning of the Letterman era.
