This track's original purpose was to bring attention to the plight of Marcus Dixon, an 18-year-old black student in Georgia who had apparently consensual sex with a 15-year-old white classmate, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison for child molestation. Dixon has since been released, but the song remains a pleasure to listen to. Danger Mouse remixes "To a Black Boy" by rock-obscurist favorites the Free Design, and over those ethereal textures, Murs delivers the facts of the case in slightly unpoetic but perfectly articulate language, fueled not by blind rage but by clearly considered, compassionate anger.
