The shortlist for this year's Mercury Prize (the British Grammys) has been announced and can be viewed here. My money's on Coldplay. They make my girlfriend cry!

To the long list of people obsessed with the genre-mashing artist M.I.A. you can add comedian Aziz Ansari, who has documented his brief brush with the Sri Lankan star in a video here, using fellow hipster comic Eugene Mirman as her stand-in.

A few months ago Trent Reznor gave fans the opportunity to remix "The Hand That Feeds," a single from his latest Nine Inch Nails record, posting the innards of the track online for all to toy with. Apparently pleased with the results, he's offering up another song, "Only," for similar treatment. You can download multitrack sessions for the song here in four different formats.

When "nice bowl cut" became a compliment for women and "nice highlights" a compliment for men, when "emo" was used to describe not just the music played at Hot Topic but also the hairstyles of the kids who worked there, it was only a matter of time before this happened.

A new Death Cab for Cutie tune, "Soul Meets Body," is available for stream on their MySpace page. (They've got almost 13,000 friends!)
