A Swedish-born, Argentine-parented, Nick Drake-inspired songwriter

The songs of José González, the Swedish-born son of Argentine parents, owe little to the music of either country, but fall right in line with the soft and melancholy acoustic guitar balladry typified by Nick Drake. "Crosses" is a lovely and wistful song that, no surprise, was featured on "The O.C.," and is reminiscent of Mark Kozelek's solo work. "Stay in the Shade" is a somewhat more unusual song, with a slightly bitter roughness to it that recalls Bert Jansch.
