Daily Download: "Invisible Cities," the Drift

The press release for this album of instrumental music mentions Miles Davis' "In a Silent Way," which is a decent reference point for the woozily, sleepily disoriented and, yes, drifting feeling that "Invisible Cities" opens with (the Italo Calvino book that it takes its title from also has a similar atmosphere). It's a mood that's ruined a few minutes in when a caught-you-while-you-weren't-looking drumbeat enters and efficiently kills the buzz. A couple of minutes of post-rock noodling later and the vibe is back on track, in a sleazy, David Lynch-ian kind of way.
