"I took a photograph of you in the herbaceous border." Unmistakably a Belle and Sebastian lyric, and I suppose a hint of self-parody may be inevitable at this point, but does it all have to be so boring? Their songs used to be so delightfully, artfully contorted, with melancholy hidden in the most fey of flourishes -- this straightforwardly chirpy cheerfulness wears thin.
