Daily Download: "River," James Taylor

This is a cover of Joni Mitchell's masterly "River," an outtake from James Taylor's 2004 Christmas Album that he's made available for free download on his Web site. The song isn't as heartbreaking or as intimate in Taylor's version, and he's made the somewhat mystifying decision to swap out Mitchell's opening quote of "Jingle Bells" for one from "Good King Wenceslas," but it's still a good song for those whom Christmas puts in a melancholy state of mind.
