So "Funny Little Frog," the first single from Belle and Sebastian's latest, "The Life Pursuit," may not rank among their finest achievements, but it's certainly good enough to make me regret my peevishness about "Another Sunny Day" a few weeks back -- or at least to feel obligated to link to the better song. Musically, this is more bubbling pop pastiche, with a hyperactive British-style bass part, but the interest is in Stuart Murdoch's unusually full-throated vocals, and in his lyrics, which this time have some bite, especially as they rather ambiguously hint at an unexpected religious subtext.
