Daily Download: "Early," Good Evening

Legions of bands have copied Radiohead's mopiness and alienation (and tried to copy their production techniques), but on this song, unsigned New York band Good Evening does a better job than most at latching on to some of what makes Thom Yorke's melodies so special, with singer David Cloyd singing beautifully, adding little bits of chillingly controlled vibrato at the end of otherwise flatly, cleanly sung phrases. The sounds are a bit thin and overbright, and the bass getting all funky there at the end seems misguided to me, but the song is still plenty effective.
