Exclusive Daily Download: "Am I a Good Man?" Them Two

Reissue label par excellence the Numero Group is back with the third in its "Eccentric Soul" series, documenting obscure regional soul labels that never made it onto the national stage. This time it's anthologizing Miami's Deep City label, and as with all Numero Group releases the CD comes with a lengthy, well-written liner note essay chronicling an unlikely story, this one involving schoolteachers turned record producers and a distinctive sound that grew of out Florida A&M University's "Incomparable Marching 100" band. The leadoff track is also the best, a thick, luxurious and somehow exotic song that oozes along on top of a fat, rolling bass line; but the whole disc is splendid.
