Reading Keats

As part of a recent TV series called "The Romantics" -- about "how Romantic poetry brought about a revolution in ideas in the early 19th century" -- the BBC hired a number of British actors to portray poets from William Blake to William Wordsworth. The star among the bunch is young Nicholas Shaw, who played John Keats and reads here from several of the poet's works, including "Ode on a Grecian Urn." You can browse through other readings from the series on the show's Web site, but as Salon critic Laura Miller says, "The rest of the actors read well, but Shaw reads Keats better than anybody else I've ever heard."
