As Donald Rumsfeld met with generals inside the heavily fortified U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad today, a suicide bomber killed himself and seven others inside a restaurant in the city, and police found the bodies of 20 people who had been kidnapped from a bus station in nearby Muqdadiyah.

The train bombings in India, the subject of front-page headlines around the world, killed 183 people, according to the latest accounts. Over the past three days, the New York Times says, "well over 100" people have been killed in Baghdad alone.
