Quote of the Day, Iraq Edition

Cheney: We'd do it all again today.

Published September 11, 2006 4:31PM (EDT)

On "Meet the Press" Sunday, Tim Russert asked Dick Cheney if he didn't make a mistake when he said, in May 2005, that we're seeing the "last throes" of the insurgency in Iraq. The vice president acknowledged that the insurgency has "gone on longer and been more difficult that I had anticipated," but he insisted that 2005 will still be seen someday as the "turning point" in Iraq.

Turning which way? Cheney made his views clear.

CHENEY: The world is better off because Saddam Hussein is in jail instead of in power in Baghdad. It was the right thing to do and if we had it to do over again, wed do exactly the same thing.

RUSSERT: Exactly the same thing?

CHENEY: Yes, sir.
