Edwards doesn't declare ... yet

Appearing on "The Daily Show," the former vice-presidential candidate doesn't announce a run for president -- but he does say he'll announce something soon.

Former vice-presidential candidate John Edwards has long been rumored to be making another run for the Democratic presidential nomination; as Taegan Goddard's Political Wire noted today, Edwards announced his first presidential run on "The Daily Show," where he appeared again tonight.

Host Jon Stewart noted the same coincidence during his interview with Edwards, saying, "You know, you announced that you were going to run for president on this program in 2003. Here you are again sitting here in 2006; it's almost a situation comical in its synchronicity."

Stewart then hinted that Edwards might announce a new presidential run, and though Edwards appeared to come tantalizingly close, he wouldn't take the bait.

"I do have an announcement," Edwards said. "If people go to my Web site, JohnEdwards.com, over the next few weeks, they may see something exciting."
