George W. Bush on the lessons of Vietnam

We'll win in Iraq unless we quit.

George W. Bush, speaking in Vietnam on what America's experiences there teach us about the war in Iraq: "It's just going to take a long period of time for the ideology that is hopeful -- and that is an ideology of freedom -- to overcome an ideology of hate . . . . We'll succeed -- unless we quit."

The United States normalized relations with Vietnam in 1995 -- approximately two decades after it pulled out all of its troops.
