Exclusive daily download: "Hide Your Heart Away," Lewis Taylor

Psychedelic soul from a one-man band.

You could be an extremely gifted musician and still make a mess out of trying to mix guitar psychedelia with Beach Boys harmonies and smooth soul. It's a testament to Lewis Taylor's vast talent that he manages to make such seamless music from those disparate influences. As he often does, Taylor sang and played every note (!) on this track from his upcoming record, "The Lost Album," which was somehow rejected by his then-record company at the time of its recording 10 years ago and is only now finally being released. The term "lush" doesn't do justice to this song, or Lewis' music generally, but its broad scope and richly layered sound brings to mind the work of other musical polymaths like Prince, Stevie Wonder and Todd Rundgren.
