Democrats' Iraq bill fails in Senate

GOP blocks measure that called for troop withdrawal by March 2008.

Republicans in the Senate have just blocked a Democratic measure that would have called on George W. Bush to remove most combat troops from Iraq by this time next year. The measure drew just 48 votes, 12 votes shy of the 60 it would have needed to overcome a GOP filibuster.
