Front-page news, at least if you’re the Wall Street Journal: An old high school friend of Barack Obama’s falls on hard times, goes to prison on drug-related charges, gets released, asks Obama’s campaign for money, and the campaign offers to help him connect with social service agencies instead. “Everybody’s just abandoned me,” the Journal quotes the old friend as saying.

One question: What would the Journal be saying today if Obama’s campaign had given money to a thrice-convicted drug offender?
