Song of the Day: "Candylion," Gruff Rhys

An atypically simple song from a typically eclectic musician.

As the frontman of ADD Welsh rockers Super Furry Animals, Gruff Rhys has presided over a decade's worth of experiments in pop, soul, rock, country and electronic music. "Candylion" is the first English-language solo disc for the eclectic Rhys (2005's "Yr Atal Genhedlaeth" was sung entirely in Welsh), and though the album's not as dizzyingly scattershot as his older work has often been, its title track ably demonstrates the man's skill at subtly grafting unusual elements onto even the simplest pop tunes.
