Another Republican calls for Gonzales' resignation

The attorney general is a "major embarrassment."

Alberto Gonzales is busy cramming for his appearances before the Senate later this month, but at least one Republican lawmaker is saying that maybe he shouldn't bother. Michigan Rep. Vern Ehlers says that Gonzales should resign, and that maybe it would be best if he did so before he returns to the Hill.

"He is a very good friend of President Bush, and it would be very hard for the president to ask him to resign," Ehlers says. "But this has been a major embarrassment for the administration by the way he has mishandled issues for a while now."

By one count, Ehlers is the sixth Republican member of Congress to say it's time for Gonzales to go.
