Duke charges to be dropped?

AP: D.A. may now be seen as guilty party.

According to the AP, all charges against the three Duke lacrosse players accused of rape and related offenses will likely be dropped, possibly as soon as this afternoon. An announcement is expected at 2:30 p.m. EDT.

The AP notes that such a move would shift the focus of the case toward Durham County district attorney Mike Nifong, who faces disbarment over alleged ethics violations stemming from his aggressive handling of the sensational case.

If the charges are indeed dropped, we'll hear a lot of instances of "I told you so." Let's hope few of them are "I told you women should never report rape."

Stay tuned.
