If your favorite thing about "Project Runway" has always been the effete exclamations of style aficionado Tim Gunn, then you shouldn't miss the premiere of "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style." (Update: Premieres 10 p.m. EDT Thursday on Bravo.) Although it starts out feeling like just another wardrobe makeover show, through some combination of psychobabble and well-meaning cattiness (Gunn looks genuinely sick as he calls one woman's dress "so egregiously bad"), the proceedings move quickly from run-of-the-mill closet-purging to genuine Fashion-Fueled Self-Actualization. Naturally it all ends with the requisite "Queer Eye" flurry of champagne toasts and teary supportive friends and family, few of whom seem unconvinced that trading in those mom jeans for some updated, flattering designer denim is tantamount to scaling Everest in a day. Gunn's choice of guinea pigs is laudable, though, from earnest-but-clueless Rebecca to smart-but-slutty Karen. And the heart of the show shines through the most when Gunn and co-host Veronica Webb make Karen throw out her favorite 20-something party dress, and then once they see that she loves it for sentimental reasons, they give it back to her in a keepsake box at the end. The message is clear: This isn't just about style, girlfriend. It's about celebrating you at your best -- minus those awful shoes.

Also…

In the Reel Life documentary "Children of God: Lost and Found" (7 p.m. EDT on Cinemax), former cult member Noah Thomson interviews other former members of the same cult and finds that few remain unscathed by years of sexual abuse. And the U.S. Open action continues with the men's and women's quarterfinals (7 p.m. EDT on USA).
