Salon's guide to what to watch on Wednesday: NBC's "Life" holds an irrefutable appeal.

We're the first to question the value of yet another procedural drama, replete with the quirky-crazy detective, out for revenge. Even so, NBC's "Life" (10 p.m. EST) holds a certain irrefutable appeal. Damian Lewis brings a convincing mix of twitchiness and swagger to his role as detective Charlie Crews, recently released from prison after being set up and wrongly incarcerated. Lewis' obsessive intensity might feel like a retread for fans of Vincent D'Onofrio's mad sleuth on"Law & Order: CI," but when you throw in compelling crimes, comedic turns and a loyal lady lawyer as a love interest, plus a season-long mystery that feels well worth solving, "Life" is both enjoyable and addictive enough to remind you of what you once liked about cop dramas. Better watch it soon, though, before it's replaced by "CSI: Cleveland" and "Law & Order: Parking Violations."
