Although it was called everything from groundbreaking television to a child labor camp, CBS's "Kid Nation" (8 p.m. EST) turned out to be less controversial, and less interesting, than most people expected. Sure, the kids were adorably plucky and full of wisdom -- when they weren't screaming at one another, that is. But the big "Survivor"-style challenges, the cheesy host and the bestowing of the $20,000 gold star at the end of each episode made viewers feel like they were watching the same old recycled reality formula with different (albeit cuter) competitors. Even so, and even if you missed the entire series, you might want to check out tonight's finale, because there are sure to be lots of tears and thoughtful words from the young inhabitants of Bonanza City. After all, the kids' insights and emotional outbursts were always the best part of the show -- OK, outside of watching overconfident Southern belle Taylor refuse to work, and then bellow "Deal with it!" when anyone questioned her choice.

Also…

Tonight also ushers in the finale of "America's Next Top Model" (8 p.m. EST on CW), and we're still rooting for Asperger's poster model Heather, even though she was dismissed weeks ago. More bad behavior is ensured on the premiere of mother-daughter beauty contest "Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants" (9 p.m. EST on CW), not to mention on "Project Runway" (10 p.m. EST on Bravo). "Angels in America" fans won't want to miss POV special "Wrestling With Angels: Playwright Tony Kushner" (9 p.m. EST on PBS, check listings). And Wednesday at 2 p.m. EST, the Republican presidential candidates face off in a pre-caucus debate in Johnston, Iowa; check local listings for broadcast info.
