You've heard it all before: "The Wire" is the best show on TV, it will blow you away, it bestrides ordinary crime dramas like a colossus! Although swooning fans are already gearing up for the show's final season (which premieres on Jan. 6), what can you do if you missed the first four seasons? Well, the first choice would be to rent "The Wire" on DVD starting with Season 1. Believe us, after the first three hours, you'll consider yourself lucky to be seeing this riveting narrative for the first time. But if you don't have 32 free hours on your hands (and who does, really?), you might want to tune in for tonight's catch-up summary of all four seasons, "The Wire Odyssey" (10:30 p.m. EST on HBO). How in the world they'll manage to summarize the countless machinations and subtle power shifts that have transpired on this show is anybody's guess. But trust us, with the fawning and sighing you'll be hearing over "The Wire" for the next few months, you should do yourself a favor and at least attempt to get up to speed on this brilliant series.

Also…

"An Evening of Dr. Seuss" (7 p.m. EST on ABC Family) features "The Cat in the Hat" and "The Lorax." A winner is announced in the finale of NBC's "Clash of the Choirs" (8 p.m. EST), and the season finale of the international athletic competition "Last One Standing" airs at 9 p.m. EST on Discovery. Catch a special, one-hour episode of "The Office" at 10 p.m. EST on NBC, or, if you missed the episode of "Iconoclasts" featuring Mike Myers and Deepak Chopra, it also airs tonight at 10 p.m. EST on Sundance.
