Why do we continue to spend time with "The Real Housewives of Orange County" (10 p.m. EST on Bravo) when they're bad people who drink too much, spend too much money, and insult each other constantly? Maybe they're there to remind us that money doesn't make anyone's problems disappear. Maybe they're there to remind us how ugly middle-aged women look when they dress and act like teenagers. Maybe they're there to remind us what bad parenting looks like. Or maybe we just enjoy their loud, tacky, cackling, outspoken company after a long holiday vacation trying to hold our tongues and be polite around our extended families.

The second season of ABC's hidden-camera practical joke show "Just for Laughs" premieres at 8:30 p.m. EST. Retro-cop drama "Life on Mars" airs at 9 p.m. EST on BBC America, and the boys of "Nip/Tuck" continue to share their gifts with the Southland at 10 p.m. EST on Bravo.
