Thursday: The smart, compelling "Lipstick Jungle" premieres on NBC. Plus: What did you think of "African American Lives 2" on Wednesday?

Prime Pick

NBC

Don't let ABC's soapy, fluffy "Cashmere Mafia," a tale of four female executives with dirty little secrets, make you shy away from "Lipstick Jungle" (premieres 10 p.m. EST on NBC), a smarter, more dramatically compelling look at the problems (and cheap thrills) facing rich, powerful women in New York City. Brooke Shields, "24's" Kim Raver, and Lindsay Price are all convincing and sometimes even funny in "Lipstick Jungle," which is based on a book by "Sex and the City" creator Candace Bushnell. The stories are more interesting and less shallow than those on "Cashmere Mafia" -- although, we're the first to admit, that's not saying much.

Also…

"Survivor" returns tonight with a mix of fans and fan favorites (premieres at 8 p.m. EST on CBS) and eateries join the reality fray in "Last Restaurant Standing" (premieres at 9 p.m. EST on BBC America). On the second new episode of "Lost" (9 p.m. EST on ABC), the castaways meet their mysterious rescuers, while yet another reality judge gets his very own badly named show on "Randy Jackson Presents: America's Best Dance Crew" (premieres 10 p.m. EST on MTV).
